Uisce Éireann’ has appointed Farrans Construction to replace over 3km of old water mains in South Roscommon.
The work will take place on the Rooskagh Ardkeenan Road with a completion date ifor early next year.
Uisce Éireann’s Networks Regional Lead Declan Cawley said: "Carrying out these works under the National Leakage Reduction Programme will greatly benefit the community. This section of water mains was prioritised for investment and replacement by Uisce Éireann due to its age and deteriorating condition, resulting in supply interruptions to homes and businesses. When completed, this project will improve water quality, significantly reduce leakage and provide local residents with a sustainable and more reliable water supply for generations to come.
"I would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and cooperation during the works. We know based on previous experiences that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the long-term benefits."
To deliver the works safely the L-2026 Rooskagh Ardkeenan Road will be closed for the duration of the works. Diversions will be in place and local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
The works may require some short term water supply interruptions but the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
