South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has announced that one of its' lecturers, Michael Hutchinson, is to speak at this year's Optimised Waste and Logistics (OWL) Conference.

The conference is taking place at the Titanic Centre Belfast on 25 October.

OWL brings suppliers from the waste, transport and logistics industries, to develop integrated products and services. Michael who is a Lecturer in Motor Vehicle, will be speaking about planning for fleet decarbonisation to participants from across the UK and Ireland.

Michael has completed and will graduate with a MSc in Net Zero Engineering from Queen's University Belfast this December.

Michael said: "I am delighted to be speaking again at the OWL Conference. This is a great opportunity to network with employers in several areas of the motor vehicle industry and for me to promote the opportunities for upskilling the industry as we continue to roll out specialist training and qualifications here at SERC.

"Although some transport decarbonisation target dates have been pushed back recently to 2035, we really need to continue preparation for the change from burning fossil fuels. Unless we are prepared here in Northern Ireland there will be a huge skills shortage, not only in the automotive industry, but across all industries, particularly plumbing and electrics."
