Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is set to launch a public and an online consultation on the development of a Recreational Hub next to Camlough Lake, Newry.
The proposed building will provide facilities for both water and non-water based activities at Camlough Lake.
The proposal includes a single storey multi-use building, outdoor space with external showers, changing facilities, slipway, kayak storage, picnic areas, vehicular turning and bus and car parking areas.
Proposals for the development include upgrading the existing vehicular access off the Newtown Road for the provision of entrance and exit lanes and associated visibility splays. There is also a new pedestrian access linked to the existing lake footway.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Valerie Harte, said: "This is a positive step forward to develop new recreational facilities at Camlough Lake, these initial proposals and concepts seek residents’ direct engagement and personal feedback. We are keen that as many local people feel involved in the ongoing development of this project and take the opportunity to attend the in person consultation event or to complete the online version."
The Council has received funding for this project through the UK Governments Levelling Up fund.
The public consultation will be held in St. Malachy's Primary School on 7 December 2023 from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm. The online consultation will be held from 7 December to 14 December.
