Power NI has donated £300 to Ballyclare Primary School to help teachers cover the cost of a subscription-based mathematics service for the children.

The creators of the mathematics service called 'Times Tables Rock Stars' claimed it has a track record of boosting children’s fluency and recall in multiplication and division. Ballyclare Primary School is one of thousands of schools across the UK that rely on the software daily to ensure maths is fun.

Designed specifically for kids in primaries 4 to 7, the numeracy programme also allows teachers to track an individual’s progress and identify any difficulties before they become a bigger issue. Pupils also have the ability to compete with their peers, other classes, and even other schools based in the UK.

Power NI employee Deane Reid has children who attend Ballyclare Primary School and he applied for the funding to help cover the Times Tables Rocks Star subscription for the next two-year period. Deane said: "Having two children attend Ballyclare Primary School, I am delighted that this funding will provide a two-year subscription to this numeracy programme.

"I believe this is a wonderful opportunity which introduces fun and games – and a competitive spirit – to the classroom."

Mr Joyce, the Vice Principal of Ballyclare Primary School, said: "The kind donation from Power NI has benefitted over 350 pupils in our Primary four to seven classes at Ballyclare Primary School.

"This donation has allowed us to subscribe to an exciting new numeracy programme which allows children to practise their times tables through songs, games, and competitions.

"The funding has allowed pupils to access their numeracy in a new way and has allowed us to use technology to support and motivate learners."

The funding has been awarded through Power NI's long-running charitable initiative called 'Helping Hands'.
