Belfast City Airport has become the first airport in Northern Ireland to achieve a Level 3 Carbon Accreditation ranking, furthering its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The airport has shown dedication to transparency and accountability in its environmental initiatives by reaching Level 3. It also holds the distinction of being the first airport in Northern Ireland to participate in this important initiative.
The Airport Carbon Accreditation program, managed by Airport Council International (ACI Europe), acknowledges airports' efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The programme involves the production of an externally verified annual carbon footprint along with an associated action plan and targets.
Judith Davis, Airport Operations Manager at Belfast City Airport, said:
"At Belfast City Airport, we consistently and proactively review the environmental impact of our operations.
"Our upgraded ‘Airport Carbon Accreditation’ programme ranking is a testament to our commitment towards managing and reducing our carbon footprint. We are proud to set an example in Northern Ireland and to contribute towards a more sustainable future for the aviation industry."
This latest development follows Belfast City Airport’s signing of the ground-breaking Toulouse Declaration, which saw the airport join a record number of airports across Europe in 2022 to solidify the aviation industry’s collective commitment to achieving a net-zero future, aligning with global sustainability goals.
