Power NI Partners With Ulster Wildlife

Power NI has announced its new partnership with Ulster Wildlife which is dedicated to the protection of native species and their habitats.

This collaboration marks a significant step from Power NI in promoting environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation in the region.

Over the last couple of years, Power NI has been backing Ulster Wildlife's initiatives aimed at safeguarding peatlands. Their support extends beyond financial contributions to include efforts in raising public awareness about the significance of peatlands and their role in reducing carbon emissions.

During the 24-month partnership, Power NI helped repair 200 bog dams, crucial for keeping the bogs wet. They also funded species surveys, trail cameras, and fence posts. Power NI staff also volunteered to remove invasive saplings, helping preserve the moisture levels of local peatlands.

Vickie Chambers, Head of Fundraising & Communications at Ulster Wildlife, said: "At Ulster Wildlife, we envision a wilder future where people and nature are thriving together. Wildlife is declining at an alarming rate, and Northern Ireland is now ranked as one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world with 12% of species threatened with extinction. It's so important that we look after our wild places and give nature and wildlife a chance of recovery.

"We are delighted to renew our partnership with Power NI following a successful two-year collaboration restoring vital peatland habitats across Northern Ireland. Our new partnership will focus on the conservation of our native species; the barn owl, the red squirrel and the hedgehog. We are thankful for Power NI’s help and support in not only financially contributing to our work, but also helping to raise public awareness about the importance of keeping an eye on our native species by recording sightings and knowing what to do if you spot them."

Amy Bennington, Power NI’s Marketing Manager, stated: "Through this partnership, Power NI is committed to supporting Ulster Wildlife's vital conservation efforts, protecting these iconic species and safeguarding Northern Ireland's native wildlife for generations to come. As Northern Ireland’s leading energy supplier, we are dedicated to playing our part in creating a sustainable future for all and making a positive impact in our communities and on our planet.

"We look forward to supporting Ulster Wildlife’s conservation projects and engaging more people in protecting our precious wildlife here."
