Uisce Éireann has announced that Farrans Construction has replaced 2.5 kilometres of old water mains which were susceptible to regular bursts in Swinford.
The new pipes along Davitt Place, Park Road, Kiltimagh Road, Chapel Street and Market Street have put a stop to outages and the loss of treated drinking water into the ground. In the coming weeks, remaining reinstatement works will be completed.
Uisce Éireann's Enda Mac Namara, said:
"Fewer bursts and less leakage mean a stronger supply for homes and businesses. Swinford is no longer under threat of sporadic bursts."
"The local community was a great support during this project, which will have long term benefits for homes and businesses."
