A €17 million investment by Uisce Éireann into Tullow's wastewater network is set to begin which will modernise and improve its performance, increase capacity and enhance water quality in the River Slaney.
ESP has been appointed to undertake the works in early May and will be completed in 2026. The works which are being carried out in partnership with Carlow County Council include upgrading the sewer network, a section of which involves a river crossing, installing new pipeline, construction of a new pumping station and decommissioning of the existing structure, construction of a storm tank and installing a new storm water overflow.
This investment follows on from a €10 million upgrade of the town's wastewater treatment plant last year and represents Uisce Éireann’s commitment to deliver critical wastewater infrastructure to support communities in Carlow.
Esther White, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: "This significant investment by Uisce Éireann in upgrading the wastewater treatment network, coupled with the wastewater treatment plant upgrade last year, will bring huge benefits to the communities of Tullow as well as surrounding areas in terms of health, environmental protection, and improved water quality in the River Slaney. By increasing capacity on the network, the project also allows us to support the social and economic growth and development of the town for years to come."
