Mivan Addresses Climate Change And Tackles Plastic Usage

Construction News Image
Bespoke joinery and interior fit-out company, Mivan, has recognised its role in tackling climate change as it makes moves to reduce its plastic usage.

In celebration of World Earth Day yesterday (22 April 2024) which had the theme of 'Planet vs Plastics', Mivan revealed that it is committed to reducing single use plastics in its operations as far as reasonably practicable by 2025. As part of its sustainability strategy, the company issued reusable water bottles to staff last year and other departments have reviewed how they can filter out plastic products. Mivan also understands the need to train staff on the issues faced by climate change, with 12 staff currently Carbon Literacy Certified, with another 12 scheduled for next month.

The firm has said that as a company and individuals, there is a responsibility to take the much needed steps to cutting emissions, reducing waste generation and leaving a lasting, positive impact on the environment.

Plastics, while initially beneficial, have led to harmful consequences through overproduction, reliance, and improper disposal. Both land and marine ecosystems suffer from plastic pollution, destroying habitats and endangering wildlife. This pollution poses serious threats to human, animal and plant health by choking marine life, contaminating soil, and polluting groundwater.

Producing plastic requires a lot of energy and relies heavily on fossil fuels. If businesses switch to reusable items and avoid single-use plastics, they can lower waste, increase diversion from landfills and improve supply chain emissions.
