Alliance's Housing spokesperson, Kellie Armstrong MLA, has welcomed the NI Federation of Housing Associations (NIFHA) commitment to reduce carbon emissions in social homes and combat climate change.
Housing associations are currently in the process of developing a scheme set to launch this autumn. This initiative aims to improve the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of more than 13,000 social homes, with the goal of reducing carbon emissions.
Speaking yesterday, 2 May, Kellie Armstrong MLA said: "Today I met with Seamus Leheny, and senior NIFHA officers, to discuss how housing associations are planning to decarbonise housing. I am delighted that, rather than waiting for Ministers to produce a retrofitting strategy, the NIFHA has been developing its own scheme to tackle carbon emissions.
"This proactive approach will not only mean that climate targets are met but will offer a pipeline of work for our local construction industry, improve the energy rating of homes, and bring the overall cost of running a home down to a more affordable level."
