Electric Ireland has announced that it is pulling out of Northern Ireland's residential electricity market.
The company said the decision was taken after a strategic review of its Northern Ireland business. As a result of this review, Electric Ireland will be focussing exclusively on the business market and, over time, our intention is to no longer serve the residential market.
Electric Ireland will continue to supply and support residential customers during this transition. This will involve working collaboratively with key stakeholders, including the Utility Regulator, and with residential customers to ensure a managed approach.
Throughout the process, Electric Ireland will continue to supply around 53,000 residential customers, equating to about six per cent of the market.
The company has reassured customers that there will be no interruption to their supply and they will be contacted in due course.
Electric Ireland accounts for around 35 per cent of the business market in Northern Ireland.
