Shareridge Nears Completion On €19m Project

Shareridge has almost completed work on the €19m Windmill Hill Reservoir and Trunk Watermain to Ratoath project.

Minister Thomas Byrne and councillors from East Meath visited the project this week.

Describing it as a "milestone project", Minister Byrne welcomed the fact that Uisce Éireann crews have 100% of the project’s pipework installed and that 80% of the new reservoir is complete.

The works will provide a more reliable water supply for existing homes and businesses in Ratoath, Kilbride and Ashbourne. The project is just one of a number of strategically important projects to increase the security and resilience of the drinking water supply across County Meath.

Minister Thomas Byrne said: "The construction of this new reservoir and in turn, the provision of a reliable water service is essential to support the economic and social development of the local area. It represents a significant milestone in the provision of a more secure and resilient water supply for East Meath."

The project involved replacing more than 7km of old watermains to Ratoath which were prone to frequent bursts and cause water supply disruptions for customers in Ratoath, Kilbride and Ashbourne. The new watermains will also address low water pressure particularly in Ratoath, during periods of peak demand.

Pat Wickham, Senior Executive Engineer with Meath County Council, said: "The project delivery team is delighted to showcase the significant progress on the Windmill Hill Trunk Watermain project to Minister Byrne and local representatives.

"Uisce Éireann has faced supply challenges in East Meath but this flagship project is a significant building block for a more reliable water supply for the people of the area. All of the pipeline has been installed and individual house connections are ongoing. Works to the new reservoir are also progressing well with completion expected in Q3 2024. We thank the community for their continued patience and cooperation while we progress this essential project."
