Northern Ireland based, Irwin M&E, has announced that it has completed the Keynsham Recycling Hub project in Pixash, Bristol.
In line with Bath and North East Somerset Council's Net Zero Carbon Targets, Irwin M&E has finalised the design and construction of M&E (mechanical and electrical) works for the new Keynsham Recycling Hub on Pixash Lane, in collaboration with Farrans Construction as the main contractor.
The project was for the delivery of a modern public Re-Use and Recycling Centre, Material Recovery Facility and an MOT Centre, and also incorporates a salt barn, ancillary offices and welfare facilities.
The project was planned with full regard for environmental considerations, aligning with the Council's ambitious goal of achieving Net Carbon Zero by 2030. It includes a range of sustainable features, such as over 800kW of Solar PV panels, hot water generation via Air Source Heat Pumps, smart internal and external controls and the installation of EV Charging points to support the Council's electric refuse collection fleet.
Due to the high fire risk, the Material Recovery Facility also had a complex Fire Detection and Suppression system installed which includes flame detection system, sprinklers, deluge water cannons and a below ground fire hydrant network with onsite water storage tanks of 456,000 litres capacity.
