Dawson WAM has recently finished installing a contiguous piled retaining wall for GRAHAM Group on behalf of Diageo, located just outside Belfast.
The project included designing and installing 231 Cased CFA piles into weathered basalt to create a 170m long retaining wall, with heights retained up to 2.4m. Dawson WAM used the Bauer RTG25s Rig in Cased CFA mode, enabling us to drive piles up to 5m deep into the underlying basalt.
As well as allowing us to penetrate the basalt, the company's Cased CFA system allowed the team to work in close proximity to the adjacent settlement tanks by helping to mitigate the risk of 'flighting' of the softer more granular material which overlaid the rock, thus preventing any damage to the tanks.
