Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Mr Kieran O'Donnell TD, has approved funding for flood mitigation and coastal protection projects in County Kilkenny and Tipperary.
In Kilkenny, the Office of Public Works (OPW) has allocated €4,223 for a study that will assess Silt Mounds and address ongoing issues with the current pumping arrangement, aiming to future-proof them following the events in Callan in October 2022. This funding supplements the €18,000 previously approved by the OPW in 2022.
As part of the scheme, the Office of Public Works (OPW) has allocated €31,613 for proposed works at Greenane, Templederry, County Tipperary. These works involve removing an existing boundary wall, excavating silt deposits under the bridge to increase headroom, importing and compacting 6-12" rock to restore the river bed, placing rock armour, constructing an earth retaining bund and filling behind the rock armour with suitable material.
