Infrastructure Minister, John O'Dowd, has urged the local community to share their views on the proposed active travel scheme connecting Crumlin and Glenavy.
The Department for Infrastructure is holding a public engagement event on Tuesday 30 July, from 2 pm to 8 pm at St John's Hall, 3 Lurgan Road, Crumlin. Department staff and consultants from Amey will be on hand to present information about the proposed shared cycle and footway extending from Old School Mews in Glenavy to Landgarve Lodge in Crumlin.
In a statement, Minister O'Dowd said: "By developing high quality, accessible and connected active travel infrastructure we will encourage more people to walk, wheel or cycle for shorter everyday journeys, regardless of age or ability. Active travel has many benefits - by increasing activity and reducing reliance on the private car active travel can contribute to sustainability, reducing the cost of travel, providing children with a better and healthier start in life, and helping to improve air quality while reducing our carbon footprint.
"The proposed new scheme between Crumlin and Glenavy is a great example of what we can achieve by working in consultation with local communities so I would encourage people in the area to come along to the event in St John’s Hall on Tuesday 30 July to hear more about the emerging proposals for the improved pedestrian and cycling facilities and to share their views with us."
An informal public consultation will also run from the 30 July 2024 to 23 August 2024.
