Sinn Féin Welcomes Blue-Green Algae Research Project

Sinn Féin MLA, Nicola Brogan, has welcomed the announcement of a new research project aimed at finding solutions to the blue-green algae crisis.

Nicola Brogan said the project is an "important pillar of the Executive's Lough Neagh action plan" which will address and find solutions to the issues.

The party's environment spokesperson said: "I welcome the launch of this project which will look at ways we can best tackle toxic blue-green algae in our waterways.

"This is an important pillar of the Executive’s Lough Neagh action plan to address the issues and find solutions, and I am pleased to see progress on that.

"Recent weeks have reinforced the urgent need to tackle the issues facing Lough Neagh and its surrounding waterways once and for all, with algae resurges continuing.

"I will continue to work with others to help reduce the algae blooms and to ensure Lough Neagh once again becomes a thriving waterway for all to enjoy."
