Sinn Féin has stated that three independent reports released this week further demonstrate the failure of the government's housing plan.
Eoin Ó Broin TD, the party's spokesperson on Housing, emphasised that "the only way to start fixing the housing crisis is a change of government and change of housing plan".
In a statement, Teachta Ó Broin said: "This week alone, three independent reports were released by the Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland, the Central Statistics Office and Savills. These reports once again highlight that the government’s housing plan is not working.
"The three reports highlight sky high house prices, chronic undersupply and the growing affordability challenge for working people looking to rent or buy a home. None of this will come as a surprise. Fine Gael has been in government for 13 years, Fianna Fáil have been propping them up for the last eight years.
"During all of that time, house prices, rents and homelessness have risen to historic highs. Meanwhile, the delivery of social and affordable homes has been unacceptably low.
"The only way to start fixing the housing crisis is with a change of government, a Sinn Féin Minister for Housing and Sinn Féin’s alternative housing plan. That is the only plan that will deliver the tens of thousands of genuinely affordable homes that working people both need and deserve."
