Co Mayo Businesses To Benefit From New Sustainability Campaign

Local Enterprise Office Mayo has launched a new campaign aimed at helping small businesses become more sustainable and demonstrating the considerable benefits of doing so.

The 'Going Green, It's All In A Day's Work' campaign will illustrate how simple it can be for businesses to implement small changes that have a significant impact. Small businesses with up to 50 employees, across any sector, can access two key supports to kickstart their green journey: the Green for Business audit and the Energy Efficiency Grant.

John Magee, Head of Enterprise, Mayo County Council said: "For small businesses in any sector it has never been easier to begin that green journey. It takes less than two minutes to fill out the form and we will take it from there. We will work with them to find the best times to carry out the free Green for Business audit and we work through the results with them.

"Then they will likely be in a position to apply for the Energy Efficiency Grant and we bring them through the whole process. We have the expertise, the time and the supports to help them go green and become more sustainable, they just have to register and we’ll take it from there. And the best thing about implementing these changes is that they will improve the business and help in saving time, money and energy, which is crucial for businesses at the moment."

The free Green for Business Audit supplies a green consultant to assess the business and compile a comprehensive report for the business owner which they can then work with their Local Enterprise Office to implement. The changes will often see the business reduce energy outputs and close production loopholes to help save time and money.

The recently announced expansion of the Energy Efficiency Grant by Minister Peter Burke allows businesses that have completed the Green for Business audit to apply for up to €10,000 in funding to implement the recommended changes. This process can be managed through the Local Enterprise Office. Additionally, the Energy Efficiency Grant is available to businesses that have previously completed the Green Start programme with Enterprise Ireland or an Energy Audit with SEAI.
