Herring Bridge, built by BAM Farrans JV for Norfolk County Council, has scooped both the Major Project Award and the Special Merit Award at the 2024 Highways Awards.
These accolades follow its earlier win as Major Project of the Year at the New Civil Engineer Awards this summer.
Herring Bridge is a crucial national infrastructure project aimed at reducing traffic congestion, enhancing journey reliability, and fostering investment and revitalisation in both the town and the broader borough. It featured the design and construction of a double bascule bridge of a size and scale not typical for the UK. The success of this technically challenging engineering project is due to collaboration between Norfolk County Council, BFJV and designers.
The Highways Awards go beyond just celebrating success stories; they provide industry professionals with the recognition they deserve. As one of the most respected and well-attended awards of the year, the Highways Awards draw over 600 colleagues to honour the finest projects, teams, and individuals in the industry.
Councillor Graham Plant Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Transport said: "We are already seeing how the bridge is transforming travel around the town and to see it recognised with multiple national awards is fantastic recognition for all of the team who have worked tirelessly to make it happen."
