The Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Patrick O'Donovan, has announced approval for Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (ETB) to proceed to the next phase in creating a new College of the Future in Limerick.
The project will now move into the Pre-Tender stage, which includes project design, planning, and procurement strategy.
This significant milestone follows a rigorous evaluation process, with the government committing tens of millions of euros for the construction of a cutting-edge further education and training (FET) campus on Station Road in Newcastle West. The new facility aims to serve as a hub for further education and training, consolidating and expanding the region's offerings in accessible, digitally enhanced environments.
Minister O'Donovan said: "This investment will benefit not only learners and staff but the broader community of Limerick and Clare ETB. It will provide an environment that supports all learners on their educational journey, helping them reach their full potential."
The new campus will streamline the ETB's educational provisions across the region, offering purpose-built facilities designed to expand access to certified programs and to introduce employment-focused initiatives aligned with regional workforce needs.
The College of the Future project marks a major advancement in Ireland's commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education and training, meeting the needs of learners and supporting the region’s economic growth.
