Expressions Of Interest Invitation For Cavan Outdoor Infrastructure Scheme

Expressions of interest are being sought for project proposals and project development measure of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) in Co. Cavan.

Cavan County Council and Cavan County Local Development have invited interest for the ORIS, which focus is to support outdoor recreational infrastructure in countryside areas that not only provides an outlet for the communities in which they are situated but also delivers added value from a tourism perspective.

Projects typically funded by the ORIS include walkways, cycleways, blueways, water and cycle trails, mountain access routes, bridleways and open water amenities at bogs, rivers, lakes and beaches, including tidal pools.

The scheme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development in partnership with Fáilte Ireland.

Project proposals can be put forward under two measures.

Measure 1 of the scheme provides funding for to the upkeep, repair, maintenance and development of trails, walkways, mountain access routes, cycleways, recreational facilities at bogs, rivers, and lakes. The maximum grant available is €40,000.

Measure 2 of the scheme is the development of new recreational infrastructure, extensions/upgrades to already existing trails, walkways, mountain access routes, cycleways, water or cycle trails or other recreational facilities at bogs, rivers and lakes. The maximum grant available is €200,000.

Meanwhile, the project development measure can provide funding for the detailed development of projects which enable them to reach a standard for application under a future round of ORIS, which could encompass detailed design, preparation for planning and/ or procurement of ecological surveys. The maximum grant available is €50,000.

Where a project requires planning permission, this must be in place in advance of an application being submitted.

The scheme details and relevant application forms are now available to download.

Completed expressions of interest with supporting documentation should be submitted to [email protected] by the closing time of 5pm on January 10, 2025.
