Wastewater Treatment Facility Complete In Ballyronan

Construction News Image
A new wastewater treatment facility in Ballyronan, Co, L'Derry, has been successfully completed following an investment of £5m from NI Water.

GEDA Construction was the main contractor for the 18-month contract, while Water Solutions Ireland completed extensive mechanical and electrical installation at the site. RPS Group provided technical support for the project.

The work included the installation of state-of-the-art, fully enclosed, treatment tanks, along with advanced electrical and mechanical systems to provide a robust wastewater treatment solution.

The existing treatment works, which was constructed in the 1970s off the Shore Road in Ballyronan, remained in operation throughout the 18-month contract, while the new infrastructure was installed at the same site, ensuring no disruption to customers' wastewater services during construction.

Tzvetelina Bogoina, NI Water's Director of Infrastructure Delivery said: "NI Water is delighted to announce the completion of a significant £5m programme of work, which will directly benefit customers in the Ballyronan area by delivering key economic and environmental benefits.

"These essential improvements will help support local development and help improve water quality in Lough Neagh for many years to come."

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Eugene McConnell, added: "This is a great investment in the delivery of essential new wastewater infrastructure for the local community and it was great to meet the NI Water team on the ground, as well as local companies involved in the construction of the upgrade: Coalisland-based GEDA Construction and Newry-based Water Solutions Ireland."

The provision of a new treatment works at Ballyronan follows the completion of a similar state-of-the-art facility at nearby Derrychrin - by Castlederg-based Lowry Building & Civil Engineering as part of the DLJ consortium - also managed by RPS.
