The major €19m upgrades to the Adamstown Water Treatment Plant in Waterford are progressing well, Uisce Éireann has announced.
The investment at the plant, which provides over 70% of the county's water supply, will ensure homes and business will have a more reliable and sustainable drinking supply for generations to come.
Glanua, who are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, commenced the project earlier this year which, alongside upgrading the plant, will drive energy efficiency using new technology and automation.
Discussing the project, Uisce Éireann's Programme Manager Hugh Kennedy said: "This €19m investment will bring significant benefits to the local communities and economy of Waterford city and county.
"We are carrying out upgrades across the filtration and residuals treatment processes at Adamstown Water Treatment Plant to ensure we continue to produce quality drinking water and protect the wider Kilmeaden environment.
"These works will ensure compliance with current National and EU Drinking Water Regulations and improve security of supply to homes and businesses across the city and county."
A completion date of 2027 has been set for this project.
