Two new Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA) have officially been opened in Ballinlough and Grange in County Cork.
Both MUGA have had basketball hoops and soccer nets installed but can be used for a wide range of games and activities. The new additions allow young people to take part in a range of sports and encourage active recreation.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Dan Boyle was in attendance at the unveiling of both MUGA, along with second class students from St Anthony's National School, who gave the new MUGA in Ballinlough a try, and sixth class pupils from Scoil Nicolas, who were invited down to take part in a fun outdoor PE class on the new facility in Grange.
The Lord Mayor said: "It's great to see young people being active but the best thing about these MUGA's is that they are for everyone - young and old.
"Every time I pass one it is in use. These amenities all over the city are very important to Cork being an Active City and Cork City Council will continue to promote physical activity to make it easier for everyone to get active."
David Walsh, Sports and Sustainability, Cork City Council, added: "MUGA are great fun facilities. They are not weather dependent and even on a cold December's morning like this the boys and girls can get out and enjoy some active play."
