A public survey for the development and revitalisation of Muine Bheag town centre in County Carlow is set to close this Sunday, January 19.
An allocation of €30,000 to complete a Town Centre First (TCF) plan for Muine Bheag was approved by the Minister for Rural and Community Development and time is running out for residents to have their say.
The TCF aims to create town centres that function as viable, vibrant and attractive locations for people to live, work and visit, while also functioning as the service, social, cultural and recreational hub for the local community.
The purpose of this plan is to identify key projects and actions for the town which will allow Carlow County Council to secure funding going forward to carry out those projects and actions.
The TCF plan process is a 14 month long process made up of 4 stages – Collaboration and Communication, Understanding the Place, Defining the Place, Enabling the Place.
Previously, on April 23, 2024, an information session was held in McGrath Hall and the Town Centre First plan process and details in relation to establishing a Town Team were outlined.
The Town Team has now been established and it consists of 12 members from various sectors.
In order to progress the development of Muine Bheag, the team need to understand the place. This involves consulting with a wide range of people and collecting data/information on the characteristics of the town.
A workshop was also held in McGrath Hall on November 14, 2024, inviting the people of Muine Bheag to give their thoughts and opinions on Muine Bheag and what they would like to see happening in the town over the next number of years.
This current survey now acts as a way for those who missed the workshop to give their insight.
