The first phase of a sewer improvement scheme is set to commence in Portaferry, County Down, on Monday, January 27, NI Water has announced.
This initial phase, which will be carried out by contractor GEDA Construction, is expected to take around five weeks to complete and will involve the replacement of four manholes and a section of sewer pipe at different locations between 118 and 192 Shore Road.
Work at each location is expected to take 3-5 days to complete. A lane closure will be in place in the working area to facilitate the scheme.
Phase 2 works will involve relining of sewers from the new manholes on Shore Road. This work is expected to be undertaken around the end of February/beginning of March and will involve similar traffic management arrangements.
A statement from NI Water regarding the works said: "NI Water and our contractor GEDA Construction are grateful to local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and support during these vital sewer network improvements, which will help reduce the risk of sewer collapses and out-of-sewer flooding."
