Northern Ireland civil engineering company Dawson Wam has recently completed the installation of a new pipe bridge for NI Water.
The 500mm diameter, 20m long, pipe bridge is located over the River Burngibbagh on the Caugh Hill to Strabane Trunkmain.
It was specially manufactured in one piece and transported from England to span the river, which is a protected fish breeding ground of special scientific interest on the greater River Faughan system.
One of Dawson Wam's civil squads completed the installation with the assistance of a 120-tonne mobile crane supported using the company's in-house fabricated steel mats.
This was a challenging lift in an environmentally sensitive area with poor ground conditions.
The crane platform design was tailored to minimise disturbance to the ground. The mats were utilised to reduce the quantities of hard fill required to be hauled to the site, helping Dawson Wam meet its environmental targets to reduce carbon and waste.
This installation was an important milestone on the overall scheme - a 9.6km, 500mm diameter trunkmain which is now nearing completion.
