Residents across parts of East Mayo and the Mayo/Roscommon border are facing water supply disruptions this morning following a power outage at the Barnacarroll Pumping Station, Uisce Éireann has confirmed.
The affected areas include Barnacarroll, Knock, Logboy/Tulrahan, Brickens, Ballyhaunis, Granlahan, Ballinlough, Cloonfad, Loughglynn, and Williamstown. Several group water schemes, such as Carrowmore, Liscat, Derry, Knocktober, Bekan, Coogue, Larganboy, Gurteen/Carrowkeel, Annagh, Cave, Abbeyquarter, Lecarrow, Bunnadober, and Delvis/Knockbrock, are also impacted.
In response, Uisce Éireann crews have deployed a generator at the pumping station, and water supply is expected to return to the affected areas later today.
Meanwhile, flushing works will be carried out on the network this morning in order to minimise any discolouration to the supply, explained Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill. "After a disruption to a water supply, customers can often experience discolouration to their water due to dry water mains. Once water re-enters the system sediment in the pipes can cause discolouration for a short period of time. To minimise the risk of this we will be flushing the system this morning in preparation for a return of full supply to customers later today."
