A Fingal development has been shortlisted for a top accolade at this year's All-Ireland Housing Awards.
Monastery Court, located on Church Road in Lusk, Fingal, is being considered for honours under the Best Housing Development category, alongside 11 other nominees at the ceremony which will take place in the Titanic Museum, Belfast, on February 21.
Monastery Court represents a pioneering approach to sustainable and inclusive housing. The development, consisting of five high-quality passive house units, showcases a commitment to energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and community-focused design.
The project includes four dedicated parking spaces, bicycle parking, communal landscaped areas, private gardens for ground-floor units, and balconies for first-floor apartments. These features reflect a holistic approach to housing that prioritizes residents' comfort, accessibility, and integration with the surrounding environment.
Paul Carroll, Director of Fingal County Council's Housing and Community Development, said: "I'm delighted to see the hard work of our housing team, alongside our architects, engineers, planners and contractors, being recognised with this nomination.
"As Fingal County Council's first Passive House project, it underlines our commitment to meeting our housing and climate change ambitions through delivery of high quality, sustainable and accessible housing across the county."
Key achievements of the project include:
• Energy Efficiency: Designed to Passive House standards, all units achieve a BER rating of A2, ensuring low energy consumption and significantly reduced utility costs for residents.
• Environmental Sustainability: The use of photovoltaic panels, rainwater gardens, rainwater harvesting systems, and heat recovery ventilation exemplifies a commitment to reducing environmental impact.
• Inclusivity and Adaptability: Ground-floor units adhere to the National Disability Authority's Universal Design Guidelines, ensuring accessibility and future adaptability for tenants with diverse needs.
• Enhanced Community Living: A landscaped communal courtyard and proximity to local amenities foster a sense of community while promoting sustainable urban living.
