Farrans Construction, on behalf of Uisce Éireann, is set to replace ageing watermains in Cavan Town.
Crews will arrive along Railway Road next week and begin work on removing 1.5km of old pipes and laying new ones, which will reduce bursts affecting homes and businesses.
The section of works will run along the R212 College Street and the R198 Railway Road.
To ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the project, crews will carry out a chunk of the work at night.
Uisce Éireann's Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, said: "This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply and improved water quality.
"We understand that this type of work is inconvenient, and our crews are making every effort to minimise disruption to the local community. These works are vital to ensure Cavan's security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience. We thank the community for their patience and cooperation as these essential works progress."
The R212 College Street from Wolfe Tone Steet junction to Farnham Street roundabout will be closed from 7am to 7pm this Monday, February 17 to Friday, May 16. Traffic lights will also be in place on the R198 Railway Road from the Farnham Street roundabout to the junction at Cavan General Hospital.
These works are expected to be completed by late Spring 2025 and are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
