Ward and Burke Construction Ltd has commenced works on behalf of Uisce Éireann to replace ageing and damaged watermains in Snave, County Cork.
Over 800 metres of old watermains, which are prone to frequent bursts and leakage, will be replaced and upgraded with new modern pipes. Once completed, which is estimated by April 2025, customers in this area will enjoy a more secure and reliable water supply for generations to come.
The section of works will take place along Tanyard Road (L-8983 and L-8983-1). The works will end just before the junction onto the Old Road.
Commenting on the project, Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction, Jack Cronin, said: "Replacing these aging watermains will help prevent bursts, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the volume of clean drinking water lost into the ground, resulting in a comprehensive improvement to the water network.
"This vital project is part of Uisce Éireann's significant investment in upgrading the national water network, focusing on areas that need it most to support thriving communities. We appreciate the local community’s patience and cooperation as we carry out these essential works."
To facilitate the safe delivery of the project and to minimise impact on the community, areas of work will be limited to short sections. Traffic management will be in place at this time, in the form of a road closure.
Tanyard Road (L-8983 and L-8983-1) will be closed until March 14. Motorists and residents can be assured that local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
The works may require some short-term water supply interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
