A County Tyrone library has officially opened following successful redevelopment works.
The Fivemiletown Library, which first opened in 1978, has been rebuilt and extended to meet the changing needs of the local community, increasing sustainability through the installation of energy efficient heating and lighting measures and providing increased accessibility with a Changing Places facility. A thoughtfully designed sensory garden is also available at the facility.
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons toured the library at the opening event and noted it had been "transformed into a bright, modern space offering a full range of library services."
Minister Lyons continued: "The building itself is a great example of how sustainable design can create welcoming spaces which will fit the needs of the local community for years to come.
"I am confident that the revitalised library will continue to play a central role in Fivemiletown, attracting new users of all ages."
Speaking at the event, Dr Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive, said: "The official opening of Fivemiletown Library is more than just the unveiling of a new building—it is an investment in the future of this community, made possible by the generous support of the Minister and the Department for Communities.
"This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our staff, contractors and the unwavering support of the local community. We extend our sincere thanks to the Minister, the Department and everyone who contributed their time, effort and enthusiasm to bring this vision to life."
