Works to install a new stormwater sewer in Ballymena, County Antrim, will begin on Monday, February 24.
CivCo has been contracted by NI Water to carry out the essential work located on a section of Moat Road and Casement Street, which will remove storm (rain) water from this part of the combined wastewater system and help to reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding in the area. It will also provide increased capacity in the network.
Discussing the work, NI Water Senior Project Manager, Robert McLean said: "The work – which will take around 6 weeks to complete - will include the installation of approximately 150m of new stormwater pipe and the construction of four new manholes in the Moat Road area.
"A section of pipeline will be laid on Casement Street, extending a short distance into the alleyway beside Harryville Primary School, where it will connect into the existing stormwater manhole."
Robert added: "NI Water and our project team from AtkinsRéalis and CivCo thank residents, businesses and the wider public for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work to deliver environmental improvements and help support new development."
To facilitate the work, a lane closure with traffic lights will be in place around any working area on Moat Road and Casement Street.
For the last section of work, a short section of the pedestrian path adjacent to the primary school will be closed. NI Water expect this final element will be undertaken at the end of the project towards the end of March/beginning of April.
