Works to replace 1.2km of ageing water mains in Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, have successfully been completed, Uisce Éireann has announced.
The old cast iron water mains from Lurganboy to Shanvaus were replaced and upgraded with new, modern pipes as part of the utility company's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
These significant works are not only giving local homes and businesses more confidence in their supply, but the new pipework has put an end to the leakage of treated water into the ground.
Discussing the works, Patricia Lowry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "We were losing valuable clean drinking water underground, so it was crucial to locate and fix these leaks and strengthen the network.
"Finding and fixing leaks in the network is an ongoing challenge for us at Uisce Éireann but it is one we are committed to meeting."
