A £320,000 project to upgrade traffic signals in Newry, County Down, is set to commence next week.
The upgraded signals, at the Drumalane junction of the A2 Dublin Road - Dominic Street / Bridge Street / The Glen / Drumalane Road, Newry, will aid pedestrian safety, road user safety and traffic progression in and out of the city on this busy commuter route.
The upgraded traffic signals will be able to operate under specialised software to help optimise traffic progression through this major traffic junction.
Work is due to begin on Tuesday, March 11, and expected to be completed by mid-May 2025.
To undertake the work safely, a series of single lane closures will be in place for the duration of the works from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Discussing the investment, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This substantial investment of £320,000 for Newry will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users who travel through this area and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities.
"I would like to thank residents and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
