Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is set to convene on Tuesday 15 April 2025 to make a decision on the proposed redevelopment of the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum in Enniskillen.
If approved, the existing leisure centre is expected to close at the end of April to facilitate the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility.
The redevelopment proposal, formulated after extensive consultation with elected representatives, the public, statutory and community organisations, and local businesses, outlines the creation of a modern leisure, health, and wellbeing hub on the site of the current 49-year-old building.
A key feature of the project is its commitment to environmental sustainability. The proposed centre will be designed and built to the highest environmental standards, aiming to become the first Passivhaus leisure centre on the island of Ireland.
The new facility will include a range of sports amenities, such as an eight-lane swimming pool, a separate learner pool, a splash pad for young children, and modern gym facilities. It will also incorporate versatile community and multipurpose spaces for health partners and other organisations, with dedicated areas for health and wellness activities.
To mitigate the impact of the closure, a comprehensive programme of alternative leisure provision has been developed, ensuring continued access to leisure facilities for users of the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum during the redevelopment period.
The ambitious redevelopment plan, which has been awarded £20 million from the UK Government's Levelling Up Fund, aims to provide significant benefits to the local community and the wider district. The project is expected to create new opportunities for leisure, health, wellbeing, tourism, and economic growth, while also promoting sustainable development and environmental protection.
