Uisce Éireann is set to commence site investigation works as part of a major upgrade of the water network between Newcastle, Co Dublin and Celbridge, Co Kildare.
The project involves the replacement of 5.2km of ageing water mains, with site works scheduled to begin within the next two weeks and continue for approximately four to six weeks.
The investigations mark the initial phase of a wider infrastructure investment aimed at enhancing water services in both areas. Construction of the new water mains is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, Nicola Butler, welcomed the start of the project, which is being delivered under the national Leakage Reduction Programme.
"This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network in the Celbridge and Newcastle areas, prioritising investment where it is needed most, enabling these communities to thrive. We would like to thank customers in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these site investigation works."
The site investigations are being undertaken to assess ground conditions in advance of construction. Works will take place during the day, and a stop-go traffic management system will be in place to ensure safety. Access will be maintained for all vehicles, including local traffic and emergency services.
The replacement of the old water mains is expected to provide a more reliable and efficient water supply for homes and businesses in the area, with fewer disruptions due to pipe bursts and leakage.
In the lead-up to construction, Uisce Éireann will continue to keep the community and stakeholders informed with regular updates and clear information about the project’s progress.
GMC Utilities Group has been appointed to carry out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
