Uisce Éireann Completes Water Mains Upgrade In Ennistymon

Uisce Éireann has completed a significant upgrade of the local water network in Ennistymon, replacing over 550 metres of old and damaged water mains as part of its ongoing efforts to conserve water and reduce leakage across the country.

The project, delivered under Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, involved the replacement of two key sections of aging infrastructure. Most recently, more than 550 metres of water mains were upgraded along the L-1050 Sroohil, in addition to the earlier replacement of 900 metres of cast iron mains along Circular Road in early 2024.

The works commenced in January 2024 and were carried out in phases to minimise disruption to traffic and local residents. The upgrades are expected to deliver a more reliable and secure water supply for the Ennistymon community, while also reducing the volume of treated water lost through leaks.

Uisce Éireann's Programme Manager, Jack Cronin, said: "We are delighted to have completed these essential works in the beautiful town of Ennistymon. The old water mains were prone to bursts and high levels of leakage. Replacing these aged and damaged water mains with modern pipes is a crucial step in reducing drinking water lost by leakage, improving water quality, and providing a stronger and more secure supply for generations to come. We thank the community for their warmth and patience while the works were being completed."

The construction works were carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
