Northern Ireland firm Farrans Construction is supporting refugee employment through its work on a major infrastructure project at Bristol Airport.
As part of the Griffiths Farrans Joint Venture (GFJV), the company is currently delivering the new Public Transport Interchange, a development set to transform access to the airport.
Alongside its construction work, the GFJV team has been working in partnership with North Somerset Council to support refugees living in the region. Together, they created a practical programme aimed at helping participants better understand the UK construction industry and improve their readiness for employment.
The initiative included a series of workshops focused on Health & Safety, Quality Management, and industry-recognised training and qualifications. Attendees also received guidance on employability and job-seeking skills. A site visit to the live construction project gave participants the chance to see operations first-hand and speak with members of the GFJV team working across various disciplines.
Several individuals who took part in the programme have since applied for, and progressed through, recruitment for roles in the local construction sector.
