Essential works on underground cables commenced today (April 28) in the Sandy Row/Linfield Road area of Belfast, NIE Networks has announced.
The energy company along with contracting partners will be working continuously, including weekends and extending the length of working days, until the project's expected completion date of Monday, June 9.
The works, which also involves upgrading existing underground cables, has been planned to ensure that access is maintained to all businesses throughout the duration and there will be no loss in electricity supply during the works.
This work is part of a significant investment in the Belfast area, increasing the reliability and capacity of the electricity network and ensuring it can facilitate a net zero future.
In order for this work to be carried out, NIE Networks plan to work within the existing lane closure (left hand lane) with two lanes still operational. No change to the existing traffic management system is currently in place.
Road crossing on Linfield Road will be carried out on a Sunday (date still to be arranged), with local access still being maintained.
