County Down-headquartered DAWSON-WAM has successfully completed a testing piling scheme on the A43 near Syresham, England, on behalf of prominent UK construction group Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and National Highways.
Works included installing 60nr 450mm diameter piles to stabilise an embankment, with all piles rock socketed into the limestone bedrock.
There were many obstacles included within this project. A statement from DAWSON WAM explained: "All works had to be completed within a tight six-hour nightly working window, where all plant and equipment had to be mobilised and demobilised every night. With our ABI Gruppe TM22 piling rig and its quick docking system, we were on and off site fast — from low loader to installing concrete piles in under an hour.
"A further challenge was that all piles had to be installed 1.5m above the road surface. Thanks to the 360° piling and extended outreach capabilities of the ABI TM22, we got it done without issue."
During the project, DAWSON-WAM also added in some time saving equipment innovation, fitting the rig with rubber track pads, a simple but effective solution which worked perfectly, and is thought to be the largest piling rig retrofitted with this solution.
DAWSON WAM concluded: "A huge credit to our client Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, National Highways and the whole team for aligning works with planned HS2 road closures on the A43, helping the project keep disruption to a minimum. Another example of how smart planning, collaboration, and the right kit make all the difference."
