Farrans Construction is set to commence significant water mains replacement works in Galway city this month on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
The works, carried out under Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, will take place to the west of the city centre, which will significantly improve water quality for customers and reduce levels of leakage on the network.
The entire programme will involve the delivery of almost 1.5 km of new water mains for the area. The first phase of works will take place along Palmyra Park and Raleigh Row.
Enda Mac Namara, programme manager with Uisce Éireann, said the works will significantly reduce the volume of clean water lost to underground leakage and provide a more reliable supply for customers in Galway City.
"The works will also reduce instances of low pressure and other service disruption on the network, by replacing old and deteriorating mains with new, modern pipework," said Enda.
"We acknowledge that the works will create some disruption for residents and businesses in the area, and we wish to thank affected customers for their patience in advance of the works. Our crews will work as quickly and as diligently as possible to complete the programme of works."
Some sections of work will require temporary road closures, which have been granted by Galway City Council. Palmyra Park (L-5117-0) will be closed from Monday, June 9, until Friday, June 27. Raleigh Row (L-5110-0) will be closed from Monday, June 30, until Friday, August 1.
The diversion route for Palmyra Park will be via the R-337-4, the R-864-16, and the L-5109-0. The diversion route for Raleigh Row will be via the L-5113-1, the R-337-2, the L-5115-0, and the L-5111-0.
