A Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council solar PV installation project has scooped top honours at this year's All-Ireland Entrepreneurs Summit.

The Ballyogan Operations Centre Solar PV project claimed the All-Ireland Business Award, which recognises projects that demonstrate excellence and is part of the larger Business All-Star accreditation, a symbol of trust and excellence for Irish businesses.

A 174kWp Solar P/V system was installed across three project phases comprising of 324 solar panels situated on the rooves of the Administration and Utility Buildings at Ballyogan Operations Centre. The array is projected to generate a combined 165,000 kWh of clean renewable electricity each year. An export licence has been awarded which will allow for surplus generation to be exported to the grid.

The solar PV system at Ballyogan is on track to provide 10,000kWh of renewable electricity to the grid this month alone. As a result of these energy projects, over 200,000kWh of Natural Gas has been avoided over the past 12 months at Ballyogan and the electrical performance of the facility has improved by 38,586 kWh across the same timeline.

The project is part of the DLR Retrofitting Programme under the Climate Action Plan, and received 50% funding through the SEAI Pathfinder Programme.

In addition to the Solar PV project, the heating system at Ballyogan Operations Centre has been replaced. A cascade of four air-to-water and one water-to-water heat pump system was commissioned in September, 2024,decarbonised the plantroom, resulting in a 98% reduction in natural gas usage.
