Additional funding for minor flood mitigation works in Inishbofin Island, County Galway, has officially been approved by Minister Kevin Moran.
An amount of €90,000 was green-lit under the Office of Public Works' Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme for consultancy costs for the completion of a detailed design stage study, which includes obtaining all relevant consents and licences for the proposed works.
These proposed works include the transformation of the existing former East Pier into a proper breakwater structure at Cloonamore Bay, and the consolidation of the existing protection afforded to Cloonamore Bay by placing rock filled gabion baskets along a section of the coastline to mitigate the risk of coastal erosion.
This latest cash boost brings the total funding to €200,157 to date.
