Ward and Burke Construction Ltd will carry out essential water mains replacement works in Knockfierna, near Ballingarry, County Limerick, in the coming weeks on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Forming part of the utility company's National Leakage Reduction Programme, the works will include swapping 2.1 kilometres of old water mains prone to bursts with new modern pipes. This will ensure a more reliable water supply and improved water quality on the network. The works are expected to be completed by September.

Commenting on the project, Brian McCarthy, Programme Manager, Uisce Éireann said: "Old and damaged water mains remain a significant source of leakage and continue to impact communities like Ballingarry, causing low pressure and supply disruption. Replacing these old water mains that are in poor condition will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

"By prioritising these upgrades, we are helping communities like Ballingarry to thrive. In advance of the works commencing, I would like to thank local residents for their cooperation and patience as we carry out these essential works."

To facilitate the safe delivery of the project, areas of work will be limited to short sections. Traffic management will be in place throughout the works as well as a road closure on the L-1209 The Commons, Ballingarry. The road closure will be in effect from June 23 for a period of four weeks with a diversion route in place along the R518.
