Shareridge Ltd will begin essential works this week on behalf of Uisce Éireann in County Tipperary.
The works will involve the replacement of over 5.5km of aged water mains along the R689 from Coolbawn Cross to Killenaule Reservoir, and will result in improved water quality, reduced leakage and a more reliable supply.
Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Dave Murphy said: "This project is a key part of Uisce Éireann's efforts to improve the water infrastructure in Tipperary. By replacing these old water mains that are in poor condition, we will ensure a more sustainable water supply, eliminate existing leaks, and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground, protecting our most precious resource. Fewer bursts and less leakage will also ensure a stronger water supply for the local community."
"These improvements are crucial for supporting communities like these in Tipperary to thrive and will ensure a more resilient water supply for years to come. I would like to thank the community for their patience and support as we carry out these essential works."
The works, carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's Leakage Reduction Programme, are expected to be completed by early 2026.
Meanwhile, Uisce Éireann is also making good progress to secure the water supply in Tipperary's Milltown St John. Works to upgrade the ageing infrastructure and reduce leakage, which will ensure a more reliable water supply for the community, are nearing completion.
These works, which run from the junction of R692/L6302 at Ballinard pump station as far as the junction of the L203/R689 at Coolbawn Cross, involve the replacement of almost 12km of old water mains with new pipes.
