Northern Ireland construction firm Farrans has won Bridge Contactor of the Year at the 2025 NCE Bridges Awards.

The recognition follows the successful delivery of three moving bridges in the last 12 months, which include the world's largest rolling bascule bridge, Gull Wing Bridge, in Suffolk – which was also recognised on the night with a win in the 'Road Bridge of the Year' category - and one of Europe's longest opening pedestrian crossings in Glasgow, Govan to Partick Bridge, both of which opened on the same day in September 2024.

Meanwhile, the Herring Bridge in Great Yarmouth was delivered in joint venture with BAM and has been noted as one of Norfolk's most significant infrastructure projects in recent years.

Following the awards success, a statement from Farrans said: "By focusing on the key principles of innovation, collaboration, supply chain relationships, community engagement and sustainability, we successfully constructed three world-class infrastructure projects which are delivering significant, tangible benefits for their regions."

The judges at the awards highlighted Farrans for delivering "major, technically complex bridge projects in the UK" which showcased the company's "leadership in civil engineering, with a continued focus on transport infrastructure and long-term investment in people and sustainable growth."
