Northern Ireland-headquartered Farrans Construction, in partnership with CITB NI, recently visited St Fanchea's Girls' College in Enniskillen to deliver a construction-focused session to Year 10 students studying Technology and Design.
CITB NI presented an overview of the construction industry, outlining key roles and career pathways available across the sector. Laura McDermott, an apprentice engineer with Farrans currently working on the Uisce Éireann framework, spoke to students about her route into engineering and gave a practical insight into her day-to-day work on site.
The students also took part in a hands-on civil engineering activity centred around water pipelines. This gave them an opportunity to understand the real-world challenges involved in the installation of water mains and how construction professionals such as Engineers, Quantity Surveyors and SHE Advisors address them on active projects.
The session prompted strong engagement and interest from the pupils, sparking discussion around careers in construction and the opportunities the industry offers. Farrans and CITB NI hope the visit has encouraged some of the students to consider a future in the sector.
