Coffey Construction Ltd has been appointed by Uisce Éireann to carry out essential upgrade works to the water supply infrastructure in Drumconrath, County Meath.
The project involves the development of a new groundwater well in Posseckstown, which will act as a new raw water source for the Drumconrath Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
The works will replace the current unsustainable source and upgrade the treatment facilities that serve over 1,200 customers in the area. The scheme is currently listed on the Environmental Protection Agency's Remedial Action List, indicating the need for improvements to ensure compliance with drinking water quality standards.
Construction will include the installation of a new rising main to transfer raw water from the Posseckstown site to the upgraded WTP. The plant will be upgraded to treat and deliver 1,000 m³ of potable water per day, in line with current drinking water regulations.
The investment will improve the security and resilience of the local water supply and support ongoing residential and commercial development in the region.
Welcoming the significant benefits these works will bring to the Drumconrath area, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, John McElwaine, said: "The upgrade works carried out as part of this project will ensure a secure and resilient water supply to Drumconrath and surrounding areas. The works will also ensure compliance with current drinking water quality regulations and will enable social and economic growth in the area."
Construction is set to begin in the coming months. Traffic management plans will be made available ahead of any on-site activity.
